In September 2021, eleven professionals from Aroostook County embarked on the inaugural Leadership Aroostook program, a collaborative initiative between the Aroostook Partnership and Husson University’s College of Business. Designed to cultivate high-potential managers and leaders, the program aimed to enhance their capabilities in organizational responsibility and team leadership.
Program Overview
The program commenced with nine in-person sessions, complemented by readings, written discussions, and team projects. Participants engaged in comprehensive learning experiences, culminating in a graduation ceremony on August 11, 2022. During this event, the cohort presented two innovative plans focusing on workforce and economic development tailored to Aroostook County’s unique needs.
Impact and Testimonials
Matt McHatten, a member of the Aroostook Partnership board and a driving force behind the program, expressed satisfaction with the outcomes, stating, “The combination of a very engaged inaugural group, utilization of Husson University’s high-quality resources, and complementing it with interaction with current County leaders, produced the result we intended.”
Dr. Marie Hansen, dean of Husson University’s College of Business, highlighted the program’s benefits, noting, “Employees gain new skills, knowledge and expand their capacity beyond what they’ve previously attained in the workplace. This inspires them to become lifelong learners through new work experiences and expand their knowledge by earning higher degrees and certifications.”
Looking Ahead
The success of the inaugural class has set a precedent for future cohorts, with plans to continue developing leaders who are equipped to drive positive change in Aroostook County. The program’s focus on professional development and community engagement aligns with the region’s goals of fostering sustainable growth and innovation.
